Water Quality

A Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station extension specialist in water resources is leading several projects related to U. S. Environmental Protection Agency Phase II regulations. For example, he has added a stormwater education module to the Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials (NEMO) program that addresses water quality through land use. The NEMO program builds on work completed by the Grant F. Walton Center for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analyses that maps "build-out" in sensitive areas.

When the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection began preparing the Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs, or the sum of the allowable loads of a single pollutant from all contributing points) the Rutgers EcoComplex provided technical assistance to ensure that TMDL development is based on sound cutting-edge science.
